15 - Nine Point Eight

Nine Point Eight (NPE). Heard of it before? Actually, if you have read one of my previous posts, then you would have known that this is another song from Mili. Of all the songs that I have heard from Mili so far, I believe this tops them all.
The song starts happily enough, listing names of flowers in the opening of each verse. Listening to the entire sing at all, you wouldn't be able to discern the meaning . However, search for the lyrics and you will see that the song is actually sad. I won't copy the entire lyrics here though, just go search for yourself.
Having a loved one die is no easy thing. People may go through the five stages of acceptance. Or, they may take the easy way out (suicide).

This is what happened to the girl. She lost someone as denoted by the line "Please don't leave me behind..." There are many other lines indicating this loss such as "synchronize to your frozen pulsation" and "sparkling ashes drift along off your flames, and softly merge into the sky."
The most striking line is "Here I come I yell and take a leap to hell" Followed by "...and nine point eight is my acceleration"
Get it? The girl leapt from a high place, and what is nine point eight? Nine point eight is the acceleration due to gravity, something one would experience fully should an attempt to jump from a high place be done.

14 - Smok-o Is a no-no don't you Know?

Rather lame title, I know. But my mind's not exactly running at 60 fps today. You probably notice that the post doesn't fit in with my usual randomness. Yes, it's apparently a requirement. But like most assignments, I want to get my own, personal kick out of this one.
Smoking kills. Smoking is dangerous to your health. Stop smoking now. Pretty common things. Same as this post, which is supposed to convince someone to stop using or attempting smoking, but would probably have the effect of slapping someone with a wet noodle as a punishment for being bad.
The hard thing is though, that I've never had a chance to smoke then stop it. After all, one should justify one's own argument. And what better way to do that than to experience what you are trying to fight. I suppose, I would have to resort to conventional statistics and repetitive arguments.
This is my only argument, smoking does kill, in a way that is completely undesirable. Why? Well, smoking is a really big detriment to one's health. It affects the teeth, the throat and the lungs. Everyone is aware that it is a really big factor in lung cancer. Whether they are right or wrong (as it is still not completely proven) any type of cancer is a serious setback. It is painful, so says some patients. Moreover, it really costs a ton of money for treatment. It is especially hard when one is still a minor and cannot support oneself yet.
You may get through all this. However, it may affect your future in many ways beside trying to pay off debts. You may have lost opportunities of education by the time you recover. Time would have been wasted. And treatment left you physically scarred, some job opportunities would probably become closed to you.
I do not condone nor condemn smoker of today, whether they smoke by choice or by addiction. However, stop wasting your life for a single piece of paper with tobacco inside

13 - When I was a Kid...

Yep. This post is a short story of me. Well more specifically, it’s about something that happened to me when I was a child. May mirth shine through your faces, for that is the exact reason why I wrote this post.
The afternoon wasn’t clear. Well, it was rather cloudy since I never would’ve gone outside to practice my bike if it was. I was about nine years-old at that time. And the bike was the greatest thing that happened to me back then.
My only problem though, was that I am a very slow learner. I always grasp things slowly no matter what I do (*cough* Orianna *cough*). I have been using my bike for more than three weeks now, I’m convinced that I have worn down everything: the tires, my knees, shins and butt; most especially, my mother and her patience (whose foot I have frequently run over whenever she took  her morning walks).
It turned out though, that I have taken the last straw from the mother that was the universe.
So back to that afternoon…
I was trying to attain greater speed on my bike. I went to the ends of our road and always looped back whenever I reached the intersections. Doing this for more than an hour I was convinced that I had mastered the bike. Obviously a mistake.
On my way back, I once again tried that speeding-up thing. Unfortunately, I lost control. I didn’t semplang as most people would call it. Instead, I got myself into a greater mess.
As I was focusing only regaining control of my bike, I didn’t notice the broom. What broom? Well, it was of our resident street sweeper. The broom was laid out across the street and sidewalk, forming some sort of bridge for ants if ants somehow wished to cross the gutter. I plowed through that broomstick, and naturally it snapped.
“WALANG HIYA KANG BATA KA! BAKIT DITO KA NAGBIBISIKLETA? HAYUP KA...!”
That’s was all that I caught from her between saying little gasps of “sorry.”
I remember not going out of the house for months when I didn’t have to. I often looked out the window during afternoons, and there I saw an old, weathered, rather plump woman, using a broom whose stick was tied together with a string of straw.

12 - Bibliophile

A bibiliophile is someone who likes books. More to the point, I love reading books. I bet you haven't even thought of me this way, considering the way my blog looks like so far. So why do I like reading? The story is simple actually. I grew up without a TV, we were given extreme restrictions on using gadgets, and lastly, I only used the internet in a relatively late age. Reading has so many benefits that outweigh the things that I missed. Being a fan of literary works has taught me some lessons.
Being a reader helped me a lot especially  in academics. I don't read for grades though. That's boring or in stuffy, sophisticated book terms, platitudinous. I don't read dictionaries. I mentioned that because someone asked me once if I read dictionaries. Wow. Some people say that I use highfalutin words. In my defense though, I try to use them out of necessity.
Anyway, those are all boring stuff. Originally, I wanted to recommend some books an novels for you, but some memories came up and about. Here are some literary works that put me in times of good mental digestion:

1) The Star Wars Extended Uninverse
2) Deltora (Quest, Shadowlands, Dragons series)
3) Witchlanders (Lena Coakley)
4) Noli me Tangere (Jose Rizal)
5) El Filibusterismo (Also by JPMRAR)

These are only some of my favorites. Books are fun! For reading and for throwing them at siblings you argue with. Use hard-bound books for this!

11 - The Aura Master

Are you a Pokemon player? If you do, then you probably know about Lucario. If you are some of the majority that don't play this game, then let me tell you some things about him. Lucario evolves from a Riolu, he has a dual attribute of a steel/fighting type and lastly, he can evolve into a Mega Lucario using a Lucarionite. Pretty basic stuff for a casual Pokemon player.
Pokemon games aren't actually what I want to discuss today. I want to talk about Lucario as one of my favorite characters in Super Smash Bros and why-I'll be discussing his charcteristics. As you may have read earlier, Super Smash is a side-scrolling fighting game with Nintendo characters like Lucario and some guest characters such as Mega  Man, Ryu, Roy, and Sonic.
Lucario's special passive ability, Aura, really give a player a serious edge. Aura basically increases his attack damage and launching power in a certain ratio as he gains percent damage. This really boosts his capability to cope with high-damage situations, such as in a sudden death match (a tiebreaker where all players start with 300% damage), or a rowdy 8-player game. It also makes his special move, Shadow Ball, faster to recharge and with higher percentage yield.
Second, one of his side special abilities, Long-distance Force Palm is very deadly. It integrates the use of grabbing, launching and Aura power into one move. Furthermore, it is a very surprising move for opponents, since his dash is barely visible. Basically, this move lets you move forward to opponents, grabbing, damaging and launching them in that particular order.
Finally, we get to his ultra-string attack known otherwise as a final smash where he becomes a super-charged version of himself. Lucario evolves into a mega form. During this form, launching rate and damage become so powerful. This has some drawbacks though. He can only move in a regular manner;thus, increasing chances of being evaded. Additionally, the more damage he takes, more of his duration as a mega will be reduced.
Do you like Lucario too? If you do maybe you could comment about it. If not, still comment about it. I want to reiterate that Lucario is a well-rounded character with a special passive ability and a fair final smash. Do you agree>

10 - Coal of a Hero

By my title, you may already be guessing where I am now and what I am doing. Yes, we have been assigned to another activity. Yes, I am sitting in a room full of computers and fellow block mates. And yes, this doesn't really keep up with the theme my blog has, but I may get some enjoyment out of it yet.
I am facing the whiteboard instructing us to ponder and write about what makes someone a hero. It is not an uncommon question. In all probability, my answer would look like all the other replies other people have given. But hey, maybe a bit of "Justin element" would show up in this post.

A hero, what is a hero? Someone who does something noble? Someone who is recognized? Wait, no, most of the time heroes are unsung. Does he/she have to fight physically? Should they even be good? Should would, could. With this so many required qualifications, it's a wonder heroes are even recognized. What should a hero be, even in the least of criteria? The Writer believes that there are only a few criteria for somebody to be named.

First if all, a hero doesn't have to be somebody brilliant or somebody so learned in a professional field. Sure we can see Jose Rizal, who wrote beautiful and meaningful works. One can also see Juan Luna, who was a hard-driven general, brilliant tactician, and had varying degrees of success in his time as a commander against the Americans. There are also spirited and passionate leaders like Andres Bonifacio, who created their the "Himagsikang Pilipino" despite all odds. Yet, a hero need not possess these qualities. A hero could only do his/her simple ways. Someone oustanding can do so in the eyes of God; rising above the common man doesn't necessarily make one a hero.

Next, one doesn't become a hero merely because of recognition. This is quite a misconception, for many people think in this sequence: One, do something good; two, get recognized; three: become a hero. The second and third steps should actually switch places. Remember, there some saints don't even get canonized and popularized.

Finally, fighting with force is not required. Jose Rizal, "Tandang Sora," Jose del Pilar, and many other writers proved that. Even inventors such as Nikola Tesla (who was only recognized after a long time) were eventually declared heroes. Military histories do not always determine a hero. Sometimes, a life of persistent work is all that is needed.

Did my point get across to the reader? Being a hero is simpler than most individuals imagine. You don't have to be somebody professional or sophisticated. A savior would never need to praised. Finally, being a hero isn't something spontaneous, rather, it is a product of a long and arduous path. So, did that just convince you of becoming more of a hero or did I do just the opposite?

9 - Computer's Night Out

Right now, I'm inside the English Resource Center, tasked with creating a narrative of the SoCSIT week. Of course, I gotta do this, for the grades and all. So here is a narrative of the four-day week filled with quizzes, practices, and people filling your news feed with people trying to make you like their pageant photos. Oh there was also that night of Fame or Shame. But let's all start from my beginning...

          Bring IT Back
                                  - 2015 SoCSIT week theme

Tuesday (July 28, 2015) was the day we were supposed to have a parade while dressed in 90's attire. Well, at least it was supposed to look modern. Most of us only wore unbuttoned polo shirts with a gaudy shirt underneath. Actually, DARTEGNIAN VELARDE, a blockmate of mine, actually wore something from the 90's. But as Migell (another blockmate) put it, it was from the 1890's. Banners and pageant candidates were brought out and contested under the sunlight. There was also an awesome dance number by the APC dance company. Oh, we also went on a parade around the parking lot. Then, we went inside, with the rest if the day for classes.

Then came another tomorrow. It's a Wednesday, and that means it's time for the thirty seconds of fame or shame event. Honestly, planning something unique for this event was hard, as I am not an idea man.Fortunately, an idea came to me two days ago. I was strapped for partners, so I was scouting around. I wanted to recruit Jason, but he already had a group. He wanted to bring me into their group, but he told me on Tuesday that they can't include me. his group was making a drama, and he can't include me in their script. Inconveniencing.

An idea suddenly came to me. I love Star Wars, so why not do that? I managed to get two other ne'er do wells: Nathan and JR. I intently outlined my plan of reenacting the battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin in the Mustafar planet which is from Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith. I had the part of Anakin, Nathan of Obi-Wan, and JR of Darth Sidious. We used arnis coated with metallic paper as swords. Practice was tough, as I had to fall because Anakin got his legs cut out from underneath him. I bruised my hip so bad. But I had to say it was worth it.

Wednesday afternoon, I had an IT quiz bee, along with DARTEGNIAN (the 90's guy) and Eugene. The questions were fairly easy, but the mechanics were terrible. We had to be the first to stand to get a recognized answer. Needless to say, we never got beyond the finals. However, we did get two points from the first round, so I believe that's a small comfort.

Then came fame or shame. I was excited, I was pumped. Moreover, I wanted to get it over with. I think the most surprising thing that happened to me was that we were the second group to be called onstage. As I climbed up, I noticed something curious: my stage fright was gone. I was no longer afraid of the possibilty to receive nasty comments.

I pointed my "lightsaber" at "Obi-Wan." He then said, "Only a Sith deals in absolutes." I went for cut for his left shoulder, which he deftly blocked. Then a block to the opposite shoulder- blocked as well. The last was an incoming vertical slam, which I v-stepped to block.

"You were supposed to be the chosen one. You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them, bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness!" well, it seems everything went according to the script. I was force pushed, I "choked" him, broke at a sprint, leapt, and was rewarded with a cut to the waist. That was my cue to let go of my saber. I did. I shouted out '"I HATE YOU!" Sidious came out, made an evil laugh, then dragged me offstage. To my surprise, we got a Fame rating. The only thing I was sorry about was that I probably hit someone when I threw the saber. Jason got a shame by the way. Serves him right! Just kidding Jason. Peace okay?

I didn't attend the pageant on Thursday, so I knew nothing about it. I do want to congratulate Tommy, Jordan, Eugene, and 2 other people for being players of the LoL team named the BasuRAMS. Haha, the name wasn't promising, but they are now going to face the Rams (the defending team) this Friday. Do good BasuRAMS! I also didn't go to SoCSIT night the following day so I have no information regarding that event. It was probably a missed opportunity to get a lanyard that I just get to have to replace the bead chain I am using.

To conclude, I have said pretty much everything to be said. this was supposed to be the concluding paragraph so I'll try to conclude: we had a parade, an IT quiz, a fame or shame event, a pageant and a celebratory night. I had my fun, and it was educational. I suppose that this event symbolizes what our school really is about: education and a fun way to carry out that education. The next time this event comes around the corner, I now know better and I want to welcome it with open USB ports.

8 - The Loose Cannon

Yup, most League of Legends (LoL) players would immediately know which character, or rather, champion, I am talking about. Yes, it's Jinx. And it's quite obvious that she's a favorite, right? So, for the ones who don't play LoL, let me tell you about Jinx's lore. Jinx is a criminal who doesn't hold any regard for lives or property lost. Her usual arsenal style, as shown in her music video, is bombarding buildings with rockets. Her in-game weapons are a stun gun, a minigun, and a rocket launcher.

Jinx is now (always will be) my "main" in LoL. Main means your favorite character, or something like that. LoLspeak is something I'm still not fully accustomed to. I think that what was weird about Jinx becoming my favorite is that I only chose her for her lore. I didn't even search about what her style was, or if she had a high learning curve or what. Turned out, she did have a high learning curve. And my first few (dozen) games with her were disasters. Didn't really help much that I am a REALLY slow learner. So, if ever fates strike that we play together (zabora76- add me), don\t expect a victory!

7 - Favoritest Video Game?

Ah, Favourites. You may not be aware of it, but asking someone their favorite something is one of the most common conversation openers. Well, in this case, it's not actually a conversation opening and- but let's get to the point. Being somewhat of a shut-in, I do adore video games (but not as much as books). I especially like retro games. And my favorite video game was already considered old by the time I started playing it, which was before I even hit six years old. And that game (which I'm suuuure you might have already guessed by my blog embellishment) is The Legend of Zelda.

Well actually, it's a franchise. To date, the series already has 18 games. The first game, The Legend of Zelda, was released on August 22, 1897, for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The franchise's latest game is The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (TLoZ: ALBW), which was released last November 22, 2013.

My very first Zelda game that I have played was Legend of Zelda: Oraacle of Seasons. I played this as a ROM file in our old Windows 98 computer. I was a kid then, and playing a video game was nothing short of miraculous. So you may be thinking (if you've never played this game before), what is Zelda all about? The game is (usually) about Link. Link is a commoner-until the world shall need him. Most of the Zelda games usually revolve around the Triforce, which was the embodiment of the world Hyrule's three goddesses. The Triforce was made up of three parts: Courage, Wisdom, and Power. Were one with impure heart would touch the sacred triangle, it would split apart. The one who touched shall get the part he/she most believed in, and the other two parts shall go their earthly embodiments. In the most acclaimed Zelda game, Ocarina of Time, the Triforce was put in such a state.

Well, just play the games, and you'll see. I'm really getting wordy with this one.

Some complain that the gameplay and story are just too linear. But let me tell you something, the real fun behind the Zelda series is in the theorizing about the storyline. give it a shot, okay?

6 - Didyouknowgaming

"Remember, it's just a theory. A game theory!" - MatPat
If you're someone into video games like me, especially the type where the game's main asset is the story, then you may be interested in little facts and theories related to these games. One of the most famous gaming-conspiracy sites on Youtube is a channel called "The Game Theorists" where the main speaker is usually a guy called MatPat. In this channel, you will find real eye-openers to things that you may have found tedious, which shifts to incredulous once you see one of his videos. Some of his videos feature the actual speed of Sonic the Hedgehog (who is actually slower than Mario according to him); the acceleration of Link due to his hookshot; the total force upon impact of  Banzai, Bullet and Golden Banzai bills; the Polybius conspiracy; reasons why Final Fantasy is ani-religion, and a lot more.
I really recommend this to the story-focused gamer. Why? MatPat applies a purely scientific approach, and uses inter-gaming relationships when relativity of size is involved (he had to do this to calculate Mario's height). He lays out facts in a very orderly manner, yet not even an ounce of boredom does he inject. Try it out! I recommend, though, that you don't immediately exhaust all of his videos.

           And here's MatPat!

5 - Smashing Fun

Ever played Super Smash Bros.? If you have, I hope you invite me to play sometime, but if you aren't familiar with this game...
Super Smash Bros.-or 'Smash" as my siblings and I like to call it- is a side scrolling fighting game. It may sound like other games like Tekken, Street Fighters, or King of Fighters, but there are so many elements that set it apart. The major difference is that instead of a health bar, a percentage meter is present. The more damage you deal against a character, the higher and farther that character shall be launched off-stage. Also, jumping and dodging and grabbing are some of the elements. And of course there are the items. The bunny hood, a gigantic cannon named Daybreak, a ship called Dragoon, and the Smash Ball, which lets you unleash a visually stunning ultra powerful attack that is unique in each character.
My first time with this game was when I had a chance to play the second instalment of the series: Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Gamecube which was given to us by some cousins. Eventually, through intense thriftiness, We (*ehem* *ehem*)  was able to buy through the fourth version, which is Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS released just last December. It has been many years, yet I still haven't tired of this game. It's because I have my siblings to play with. And let me tell you, things can get pretty intense especially when shouting and tempers flare. But it is still one of the most enjoyable games around.
My most powerful fighter is Link, especially with speed-oriented customizations. Others are Ganondorf, Zero Suit Samus, Samus, Lucario, Marth (Lucina too!), Zelda, Peach, and the dreamland resident King Dedede. The ones that I hate fighting is that Little Mac, who, in my brother's hands, is one over empowered fighter.
And that's it! I hope that someone who read this will actually invite me to play with them!

4 - Internal Antennae

I am a fan of retro games. When I was about six years old, we were lucky enough to have a computer. I have many fond memories of that Windows 98, the type where the large color tube monitor sits on top of the CPU- anyway, we had a large collection of GBA and GBC games that we play in the Visual Boy Advance Emulator.
One of the games that I played was the Sims: Urbz by Electronic Arts. One of the characters called Gramma Hattie, makes this statement when a certain conversation action is triggered. She said "-do you see the color blue I see?"
That got me thinking. What if we see things like color in a different way, but have agreed that this shall be called purple, or red, or granny smith green? Of course, science has proved that colors are perceived by the retina and its collection of rods and cones. Question solved. Naturally something else popped up, what if that question can be applied to emotions?
Its very hard, because emotions are emotions, and words are words, trying to compare them would be like trying to compare a computer to a road sign, and trying to interpret them  into words would only put us into square one, because diction is hard to regulate and words are relative in usage in meaning. But what the heck, let me describe how I feel fear:
Feeling intense fear, I sense that everything is about to crumble. Inside, it feels like everything is going too slow AND too fast. Its almost like my skin can smell danger and my mind can taste iron. I don't feel a sinking in my stomach, and I also don't sweat a lot. Vague huh? But that's until what words can do.
Weird huh? But of course, those're feelings, and feelings are subjective. But as I said earlier, what if we perceive a solid thing differently, and to whatever sense they may appeal to.
I just want to stop while I'm ahead of myself. Peace Out!

3 - From Miles to Millimeters for my Dear Mili

I believe I have mentioned in the last blog post that techno songs are something that I adore. The next step was finding a band or even a standalone creator, but let's not get ahead of my historical narration.
As I was playing Cytus, I found a particularly good song that had lyrics. What really caught me here was that the lyrics blended really great into the music. I believe I have to explain to you my connotation of the word blended. The thing is, you won't hear the lyrics, unless you know that there actually ARE lyrics. The song is named Chocological, by Mili, a small group of Japanese musical creators. Strangely enough, all of their lyrics are English, something I found out when I went to their bandcamp page. I also discovered that they have a lot more songs than I thought they would have. In fact, I only have had the time to explore one of their albums. I recommend that you try it. If you are the "heartfelt-everything" type, try the songs "Witch's Invitation" and "A Turtle's Heart." You will find that their lyrics can actually be soulful (if there are any lyrics at all). You will also find diversity in the instruments that they use, I think it reduces the monotony that way.
Before this post ends, I just want to share with you my personal favorites and the reason why. Number one would be Witch's Invitation, which has an amazing tempo and choice of musical instruments. Oh, and the typical "Halloween" elements made it amusing. Tied for second place would be Chocological and A Turtle's Heart. Believe me, when I heard the tune, I thought the songs would be happy, but the lyrics say so otherwise. Finally, there's Sacramentum-An Unaccompanied Hymn for Tomino. There are no lyrics, but the acapella thing's very neat.
         End of post!

2 - Lyriclessly

I am not a fan of contemporary music to be honest. It's not that I "hate" the way the lyrics are sung or constantly repeated as is always the complaint by the people on 9GAG. It's because I actually like music with no lyrics or better yet, unaccompanied, original songs (not Pentatonix; note the word "original").
The year 2013-I played a game for smartphones called Cytus. I'm sure most of you are familiar with it, but for those who don't, it's a rhythm game published by Rayark, a Taiwanese company. Needless to say, it was very enjoyable, both in game play and the techno songs.
Techno songs are definitely the ticket. No, not dubstep, brostep or chillstep. Honestly, I don't know the genres of these musical pieces that I found, but seriously, they're great for everything: doing homework, walking around, sitting on the bed or toilet. So I did what most people do, I downloaded the entire Cytus soundtrack, amounting to about 150 plus songs.
The more I snoop around the web, the more I see people who say that techno songs are corny or emo or whatever derogatory adjective you can think of. Sniff around about the effects of video game music on people, you may be surprised. Oh and of course, this is just an opinion. No biggie!
Don't knock it till you try it, 'kay?
Wait for my next post. I'll be talking about one of my favorite techno song creators.

1 - An Introduction

"I am certainly not a writer of any kind!" Those were the words that struck across my mind when this blogging program was announced. But heck, if it's for grades, of course I have to. Anyway, this blog is dedicated to things that you may find frivolous, not because I want to, but because I believe blogs are for obscure personal things instead of political mumbo-jumbo which may be something for editorials. As of now, I'm still having trouble thinking of subjects to write about. however, I suppose that most of my blogs would revolve around games and perhaps some of favorite books anyway. I don't know, because inspiration that comes to me is spontaneous.

So, to reiterate, I may post about things that are frivolous or uninteresting, feel free to hate or love, comment or just lurk, it's all okay. Just remember, this is just a blog.
